A single-member LLC is reported on the owner’s return by default, unless it elects to be taxed as a corporation.

7 questions

Which return does my business file?

It depends on how the business is set up. Sole proprietors and single-member LLCs usually report on Schedule C with their personal return. Partnerships and most multi-member LLCs file Form 1065, S corporations file Form 1120-S and C corporations file Form 1120. We confirm which apply to you.

When are business returns due?

For calendar-year businesses, partnership and S corporation returns are generally due March 15, and C corporation returns and Schedule C (with Form 1040) are due April 15. When a date falls on a weekend or legal holiday, it moves to the next business day. Fiscal-year businesses have different dates.

Can I get more time to file?

Yes. Businesses can request an automatic six-month extension with Form 7004, and individuals with Form 4868. An extension gives more time to file, not more time to pay any tax owed.

Do I need to make estimated tax payments?

It depends on what you expect to owe. Sole proprietors, partners and S corporation shareholders may need to make estimated payments on their own, generally April 15, June 15, September 15 and January 15. C corporations generally pay by the 15th day of the 4th, 6th, 9th and 12th months of their tax year. We’ll explain what applies to you.

Can you prepare my personal return too?

Yes. We also prepare individual tax returns, so your business and personal returns line up.

Do I need bookkeeping too?

Not always, but current books make tax time faster and more accurate. We offer bookkeeping as well.

How do I send my documents?

Bring them to your appointment, or use Intuit Link if you already have a portal invitation. If you’re new to Avivas, call us for the next steps. Please don’t send tax documents by email.
